Teach students to take control of dealing with bullies in a positive way by introducing the 5 steps to stop harassment and bullying.
Display in a prominent place in the classroom. After a few weeks of revision, students will know the 5 steps and as a teacher, you can simply hold up your hand and point to a finger for the child to know what to do. Children who choose to use bullying behaviour will soon realize that other students will ignore and walk away before reacting and students will be empowered to know that they can take control of bullies and not be a victim. Step 5 is always to tell the teacher, so that students know they can comfortably come and tell an adult that there is an issue, but this way they take responsibility first and reduces children being a 'tell tale'.
